Originally, Hamilton was known as Fairfield, when it was originally set up in 1794. Hamilton has not gone on without its hardships though. The city was a casualty of the Great Dayton Flood in 1913. The city also went through the embarrassment of changing its name to Hamilton! However, the government offices dealing with geographic locations dismissed the exclamation point in the name, with Hamilton quietly rescinding something the city had done in attempt to bring more notice to its location and citizens.
