Located in Lake County, Illinois, Zion was established by a man named John Alexander Dowie. This was the same man who formed the areas first church, Zion Tabernacle of the Christian Catholic Apostolic Church. While this church burned down in 1937, it is still remembered in the history of the forming of Zion. The city of Zion is located on lovely Lake Michigan, just short of the Wisconsin State Line. The area is between Chicago and Milwaukee, which offers residents of Zion plenty to do within a short drive or train ride.
Zion offers numerous events, programs, and activities throughout the year. During the holidays you can always expect something to be going on. For one month between November and December, the Festival of Lights occurs. Zion is located near Six Flags, Lake Michigan resorts, the Gurnee Mills Outlet Mall, and numerous small shops and delicious diners that are located right in town for the pleasure of the residents.
