West Chicago got its start as a town after the railroads began running through the area. The town was formed around 1849. In those early years, West Chicago was known as Junction because the city connected several cities with the railroad and severed as a junction between them. The town changed its name to West Chicago in 1896. Today, West Chicago works to restore the old and expands to accept the new. City developments are working to preserve the Downtown area and to accept new businesses. Currently in the downtown area of West Chicago you will find numerous shops, restaurants, and the occasional museum and historic building.
The parks department of West Chicago offers several parks, biking and walking trails, golf courses, an aquatic center, and much more. Prairie Path is perfect for biking or walking. This beautiful nature area goes for 305 acres and is filled with interesting and native plant life. The schools in West Chicago are known in the area as going above and beyond the standards of public school. West Chicago is an excellent place to live with a high standard of living for all area residents.
