The city of West Bend, Wisconsin was originally formed around 1845 when it served primarily as a rest stop as a halfway point between the cities Fond du Lac and Milwaukee. Located along the Milwaukee River, this rest stop was quite popular with travelers. When the railroad moved into the city a surge of settlers came with it and West Bend was born. The city would go on to be incorporated in 1885. West Bend is located in Washington County, in the Southeastern portion of Wisconsin. The city is about an hour from Milwaukee and home to more than 30,000 residents.
West Bend is one of three of the fastest growing cities in the state. The city also serves as the county seat of Washington County. The educational needs of the residents are handled by the West Bend School District. The district is in charge of six elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. There are also thirteen parochial schools in the area. When it comes to area senior citizens, West Bend offers excellent health care, special services and activities, and the city is home to the largest assisted living community, Cedar Community.
