Jonesboro, Georgia is a small town in Clayton County. Prior to the railroad moving in and the city's incorporation in 1859, the city was known by the name Leaksville. Today, Jonesboro is the county seat for Clayton. Jonesboro is most known for the place it held in the Civil War. The Battle of Jonesboro was the last battle prior to the fall of Atlanta and the evacuation of the city. The other thing that often puts Jonesboro on the map is the world renowned book by Margaret Mitchell, Gone with the Wind. In the book, Mitchell described several areas in Clayton County and it was believed that Tara, the O'Hara plantation, was just miles from Jonesboro.
