When you enter Griffin, you will be greeted by a city where old town charm mixes with all the modern day conveniences that you could ever hope to have. Residents will tell you Griffin is the perfect place to live. However, they might be biased. Griffin is home to an overall laidback atmosphere. The schools are excellent and the business district is busier than it has ever been before.
Griffin was incorporated on December 28, 1843. This is the same year that Marthasville (later to become Atlanta) became an official city. Griffin began as part of a giveaway area. Officials offered a lottery system and the winners received plots of 202 acres. One of Griffin's most famous residents, Doc Holliday was born just a few years later in 1851.
Seasonal events are quite popular in Griffin. NASCAR is very big in the city, due to the close proximity to the Atlanta Motor Speedway. In the spring, Griffin holds the April Mayfling Arts and Crafts Festival. Summer brings a number of galas and the annual Fourth of July Parade. However, fall is when things really get moving. During the fall there are numerous charity events (Kiwanis of Griffin Fair, Humane Society Chili Cook-off). There is also the Christmas Parade, Christmas Displays, Christmas tree lighting, Trick or Treating, and much more.
