When Forest Park was formed in 1908 it had the name, Forest Station. The town was created as a farming community and became a bustling railroad stop. Soon it was known as a "wood and water" stop which caused the railworkers to refer to the town as a Stump Town. Today, Forest Park has become one of the largest cities in Clayton County.
The Forest Park school system is part of the Clayton County Schools. Forest Park students attend five different elementary schools, two junior high schools, and one senior high school. College students will have the chance to benefit from Clayton State University, which is located right outside of Forest Park.
