Dallas, Georgia was named for former Vice-President (under President James Polk) George Mifflin Dallas. The city was founded on May 14, 1852 when the state was given land by Garrett Spinks. Prior to incorporation, Dallas was a series of Cherokee Indian paths. Settlers chose the area for the abundance of natural springs in the area. Dallas is a city that has a strong sense of American History. During the Atlanta Campaigns for the Civil War, confederates held the town at the Dallas New Hope Church and Pickett's Mill to force the Union soldiers east.
